I am a voracious reader so I thought I would share what I am reading with all of you! I will give full reviews when I have completed each book. Enjoy!
Currently being carted around:
Pigs in Heaven – Barbara Kingsolver
Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone – J.K. Rowling (reading a chapter at a time to my boyfriend who has never read the series)
Finished:
Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck – A classic that should be read by everyone. I thought some of the chapters that described the era of depression to go on a bit at first but by the end I really looked forward to them and found them very poetic. Gotta say though, I was not impressed with the very last image of the book. It is so obviously a scene that only a man would write.
Sleeping Naked is Green – Vanessa Farquharson, http://greenasathistle.com
- I loved this book. It was insightful, inspirational, and hilarious. I read it in a day and a half and could not put it down. I learned a lot, really rethought some of my current choices and started making some new changes. BUT I didn’t feel guilty for not making some of the changes that she made because she also talks about how sometimes it is hard to know what is the right thing for the environment. Most of all, she was funny – laughing out loud funny!
The Book of Negroes – Lawrence Hill
- Amazing book! This book tells the story of one woman’s life from her village in Africa to Slavery and back to freedom. This book makes you question humanity and explore some of the most interesting aspects of human behavior. It also makes you realize that no matter where you go and who you meet generalizations do not work. There is good and bad and everything in between no matter what race, religion, or country.
Llamas and Empanadas – 5000 kilometers by bicycle through South America - by Eleanor Meecham
- I really liked this book for the intimacy she creates with the reader. At times I could practically feel the wind blowing me off a bike in South America. The book details her travels by bike through several countries and the people she meets along the way. It did get a bit long and repetitive in some places but just when I would feel like something new needed to be introduced she would shift focus and draw me into her own psyche and leave me feeling like I should head out with a bike to explore the world. This book definitely reawakened my inner travel bug.
